Intellectual property -- what's the deal?
Intellectual property is “intangible property that is the result of creativity, such as patents, copyrights, etc.”
The only part of our contract currently dealing with intellectual property is Article 24, Course Materials:
“Ownership of course materials will be in accordance with law, unless the faculty member and the College agree otherwise in writing. The College will not unreasonably deny a request by a faculty member to use course materials that the faculty member created.”
The most important part is the four words “in accordance with law”. What is the law regarding work created by college teachers?
The union has created two short animated videos to help you understand the legal issues. Please check them out at this link.
